[Profitability of the Algae Cultivation Business]
(Various benefits generated by one device and one algae)
There is a big reason why I have been committed to developing culture equipment from the beginning.
There is a diversity of algae, said to be as many as 100,000 types, each of which has different components.
Among them are fucoxanthin, which is the main focus of our company, and all the other useful rare components that have been identified by previous algae researchers.
However, with existing culture equipment, the types of algae that can be cultured, whether indoors or outdoors, are limited to a single digit. (※We will explain why this is the case another time.)
Although there are 100,000 types of diversity, most of them remain untapped.
Naturally, 100,000 unexplored plants are a treasure trove for pharmaceutical development.
Therefore, I will promote my business based on the development of a culture equipment that is versatile and suitable for the cultivation of all 100,000 types of algae. This is the driving force behind my commitment to equipment development and the push forward with it.
There is no doubt about the potential of the business to expand the possibilities of algae, which have been limited to a few types until now, to 100,000 types.
And there is another aspect to the profits that this versatility brings out in the algae cultivation business.
Until now, algae cultivation has involved searching for one that can be cultivated using existing cultivation methods from among 100,000 types.
All algae are rich in nutrients, so this is the birth of a new supplement, but in this case the only way to consume it is to process the produced algae biomass into tablets as is.
However, if superior equipment is developed and versatility is brought to the cultivation of all kinds of algae, then it will be possible to select and cultivate algae species that contain noteworthy and rare ingredients with great market potential, based on the research results of researchers around the world on the contents of algae.
Rather than searching for which algae can be cultivated using existing cultivation equipment, we will be able to actively select the algae species to cultivate, such as cultivating this algae because we want to produce this ingredient from that algae.
I think that even just from the content so far, you can fully recognize the importance of developing cultivation equipment, but in the case of the algae cultivation business, it does not end there.
First of all, algae cultivation = CO2 reduction is always a set.
Then, rare ingredients such as fucoxanthin that are very similar to pharmaceutical development are extracted from the algae biomass, but in most cases there is more than one rare ingredient that can be used.
Taking fucoxanthin-producing algae as an example, there is a wide variety, including fucoxanthin, EPA derived from completely plant-based organisms, various polysaccharides, and rare proteins. All of these can be commercialized.
And since the residue after extraction still contains a wealth of nutrients, using it for livestock feed and feed for land-based fish farming brings benefits in all aspects, such as improving the health and meat quality of livestock and seafood, improving self-sufficiency in feed, and creating local industries.
And the more points that can be profited from, the lower the unit price of each material will be, increasing the possibility of business viability and competitiveness.
